I'm new to collecting coins but my kids and I were out detecting when this zero on this penny caught my eye, I need to know if anyone of you experts can help me....
I've taken it down to Houston and a collector at a coin shop tried to buy it but I need help because I don't know what it's worth ..Not only that but what is this line called running across the zero or what is it? IMG_20190129_161038.jpg

Looks to be damage. Nothing special.

In that condition, it’s worth about one cent. Maybe he just needed one for his set, was it a little kid or something?

    He's definitely not a kid...
I will just ask him what is it about this penny he's interested in.
Maybe because it's a 1970 small date as they calls some or is it because of that line idk

Copper is very soft, especially when it is so thin. Easily moved around. From the photos I would say a blow hit from the side moved the side of the 0. I have seen several similar from an old fashion mechanical coin counter finger. Also that is a large date. Jim

So is it worth getting graded or just buy a cup of Sonic ice with it ?

Take it back to the shop and sell it to the person who wanted to buy it.:)

No , grading is way more expensive than a pocket of them. Under the conditions of the light, I would say VF to XF condition.

    Hi Tina,
Usually, it is best to confine each thread to a particular coin or group of coins (as in your group of music coins or medals - whatever they turn out to be). I recommend that you start a new thread with an appropriate subject title that will draw the interest of those with expertise in the area.
But in the meantime I did find this listing on eBay.
