Looks like AU53 to me, but wouldn’t be surprised if ANACS called it 55 or even 58. Whatever the case, it’s a truly handsome coin and would find a loving home at my place!
What do you think it would grade today, Larry? I see lack of luster and much more circulation than is typical AU58. But maybe I'm wrong.
I think PCGS would be at 53 or 55 and NGC at 55 or 58. The image brought out the color but not much of the luster.
IMO, NGC used to be easy on bust halves, but nowadays they are exactly on par with PCGS. Unfortunately, those years where they gave XF45s an AU53 grade did some irreparable damage to their bust half grading reputation.
Got it. Thanks. I'm just dipping my toe in the CBH pool. I have 3 books on the series. I own some NGC and PCGS graded coins. I don't just trust the "label" but I was curious what people thought. For some reason, a nice VF/XF CBH with even wear just looks very cool to me. In my Peace Dollar collection, it's all MS. Here's an example of what appeals to me in this series. BTW, I think the PCGS coin might be a point high. 1928 O-114 by JPeace$ posted Apr 28, 2018 at 10:12 PM 1928 O-114 reverse by JPeace$ posted Apr 28, 2018 at 10:12 PM 1814 by JPeace$ posted Jan 27, 2019 at 9:20 AM 1814 reverse by JPeace$ posted Jan 27, 2019 at 9:20 AM
