I bought a 1970 Proof Set today. I thought I was buying one with a large date cent (at least that was the way it was presented to me as). But it looks small to me. I don't have a loop or a good camera with me, just the magnifier on my phone. Small or large date?
I'd go back to the shop tomorrow but I'm leaving town. I'll make it up to him eventually, if I ever get back this way. Name/location withheld out of consideration for the innocent...lol.
So no intent to hijack your thread Corgi. Your post made me go look in the red book which made me look at the 1970 mint set I picked up this last weekend. So the S cent is the large date but the MM looks doubled or repunched. None of the rest of the lettering or date looks like die deterioration but what do I know? Is this an RPM?
Small date. The way you can tell from the date is by the 9. If the inside curl of the 9 is pointed towards the top of the S mint mark then it is a large date. If the curl points to the 7 in the date, then it is a small date. Yours obviously points to the 7. So, small date.
