Unbelievable! And the seller announces it's a fake.

I'll admit that I've often thought of buying one of these as a joke, but IIRC, you can have one sent to you real cheap. Here, though, are three bidders who've been told it's not real but they've got the price up there anyway. Join me in shaking heads at this.

funny thing is, they started at $19.99

 

I guess they want to fill that hole cheap. It won't be cheap if they keep bidding like that.

Nothing much to report on this being the seller has declared that it is a "repro". I can tell right off that it is a modern Chinese-made replica. Collectors like to fill their albums with decent-looking replicas such as these without seeing some redundant message stamped on it and they should have every right to do so.

Like the seller says, "fill that coin hole with a cheaper coin that no one can afford." Essentially, these are great for collectors who would never be able to afford an original example and would otherwise look at blanks in their albums forever.

 

eBay has long banned repro coins that aren't stamped COPY to comply with the Hobby Protection Act, and now they ban even those. But, as we see, enforcement is very weak.

Out before someone brings up the C-name.

The seller has a few copy's - 1877 INDIAN HEAD PENNY CENT REPRO COIN FILL THAT HOLE CHEAP at $75.00

 

If eBay pretends to enforce the HPA, then why is there a separate category for "fantasy" dates when the FTC has already ruled those must also be marked? EBay doesn't give a rip.

 

The "C-name" bit was a joke, not a recommendation.

The closest thing I see is a "Coins: US -> Novelty" category...?

 

It's still cheaper than a Carr. Better quality too...

If there is an Indian expert that can look at those not listed as repro and PM a list of counterfeits with accurate diagnostics of those that are copies and how you know they are, I will get those taken care of also.

You are allowed to feel they SHOULD have the right to have these. The fact is they do not. We have a law called the Hobby Protection Act and an update of this called The Collectible Coin Protection Act. They have specific rules for copies. I understand Ebay cares very little. I do care. every collector should also IMHO.

If everyone here contact the seller and ask why no copy mark is on the coin what do you think he would do with the listing

 

I really don’t mind if they are sold as copies or replicas, that’s how collectors can nicely FILL a hole in their Dansco. What I do mind is this: FILL FREE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER COIN AUCTIONS
