I like the Benin coin also. I think I might try and find one for my daughter's elephant collection.

After a trip to New Zealand last spring I wanted to put together a type set of early new zealand coinage. Since they started minting in 1933 I wanted the original crowned bust type. I won these 2 in an auction last night so now all I need are the 6 pence and 1/2 crown. Both of these are ms64. I have found it EXCEEDINGLY difficult to find early 1930s New Zealand coinage in UNC. Grades.

Always! Right now my plans are to stick to business strikes intended for circulation, but the reason for that is mostly that the dizzying array of commemoratives and bullion coins intimidates me a little. I went through an old Krause catalog to put together a spreadsheet of all world coins that were circulated, minted in the 20th century, and have at least 10g silver content. Happy to share with you or anyone else who is interested.

I've been getting more interested in Hungarian moderns as of late, and as my collection had expanded forward as far as 1990, after much consideration I've split my type set into Classic Hungarian (1848-1945) and Modern Hungarian (1946-Present). The Classic set is exhaustive and the Modern is first-year of type only, circulating coins only (and their first-year proof issues).

So here are a couple new pickups for the modern set:

Hungary 1994BP AR 200 Forint (Deák Ferenc)
    KM-707 Proof (1994)
    NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO

This is actually the last Hungarian circulating type that was struck in silver. It is a one-year type commemorating Ferenc Deák, who is considered to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest Hungarian statesman.

Hungary 2004BP Copper-Nickel 50 Forint (Hungary in the EU)
    KM-773 (2004)
    NGC MS69 DPL

This is a one-year type commemorating Hungary's entrance into the European Union in May of 2004. Prooflike coins could be found in many of the special BU mint sets issued to commemorate this event (mintage of 8,000), and this is a nice deep prooflike example that no doubt originated from one of those sets.

I had a Hormizd IV that was lower grade that I parted with only because I decided to upgrade to one in better shape at the same price I got my old.

It took almost a month to arrive from the UK, but glad it did.

I was also attracted to the nose area, looking like a snot/sneeze through the nose.

Another one from Ponterio's NYINC offerings, --this one far nicer than the grade indicates in my opinion. These Montenegro issues seem to show-up in European auctions far more often than here in the United States, -though a fairly tough coin in nice condition no matter where on the planet. Mintage of 30,003.

Being new at this, I buy on the cheap LOL.
This was advertised as "rare" but then again what really is rare ?
I liked the design and since it is close to Germany, where my ancestors are from, I decided to start collecting Austrian coins. Most German coins seem to have a swastika and I am repulsed by them.
"Austrian Empire - Austrian 1914 2 Heller Coin High Grade R", is the description.
