Just a note for the sake of causing trouble...lol:headbang: For about a year now, I have been buying up 09 Lincolns...raw and slabbed, S mint, P mint and VDB.....anything I can find thats nice. Tonight I sold at auction an NGC 09-VDB 65RD....sold for $150 and change with shipping, I paid $105 w/shipping 3 months ago. A while back I sold a LESSER coin ( I kept the NGC because it was FAR better ) in PCGS plastic for $100 more, and see them hit $300 regularly these days. What is my point? People pay more for the PCGS plastic.....period. Why? I'll now stand back and watch.
Like has been pointed out in other threads, recent auction results are the best guide for a coin's value. And if others paid more for PCGS coins than NGC coins in previous then, by golly, PCGS coins must be worth more than NGC coins.
Not sure on that. I have been buyin up any 09 cents I can in the past year. I have 3 and a half rolls so far of mixed grades 09 and vdb. I have 5 09-S .. I was going to post a new thread on this, probably should have.. What is everyones opinion on the 09 cents jumping in value for the 100 year anniversary? How much do you think they will increase? If at all... Im hoping my little stash will help me afford some nicer coins for my collection..
You know. Im sad to say this. I have never had a chance to get a 1909 S vdb. They have always been to much money when I have seen them or no around when I the money. I guessing that after this year. I will have a even harder time.
I agree. When I started collecting coins there was no mention of a coin slabbed coin. I remember the first time i saw a NGC slab at a coin show about 20 years ago I think. I own 9 slabbed coins. All of them I bought that way. I only bought then because I got a good price. 2 ICGs 3 ANACS's 2 NGC and 2 PCGS. I dont mind buying id there already in plastic. I do mind paying for it.
That question has been bothering me for quite some time...neither service is better than the other in terms of authenticy, and in my experience NGC is way more consistent with grading. Here are the only reasons I can come up with for premiums on PCGS slabs: 1. Kool aid 2. Ignorance 3. Kool aid
Here Here. I've two vdb '09s and an S '09. Theyre mine and will always be mine. I'm just not into hoarding or selling. two weeks ago I offered to give someone here a VG(IMO) 1908 Indian cent. the guy mustve thought I was nuts, because he didnt respond. NGC PCGS ABC DEF they are all overpriced to me So whats the difference?
I just checked...my PCGS auction is long gone...I did not save the pics dangit..... Next to the NGC 65-RD, the PCGS-65RD looked like a DOG. Sold for $100 more. I just wish I had saved pics for a side by side, you'll have to take my word on that one. Just to keep it fair...I have sent back some 66RD NGC doggys too tho My opinion overall, with my limited experience? No differance except one has clear plastic and one has white plastic. They both screw up at times, and both get it right nearly all the time, but the proof is in the bank...$$$, PCGS brings more of it
might have to do with the outstanding leadership of Ron Guth. He is amazing person IMHO and will treat you like a VIP even if you are a nobody and submit just one coin for grading
This is a Good Subject!!! Not to single out your quote bqcoin, but your statement is closest to what I want to expand on. I believe it is mostly popular opinion rather then a difference in quality. All and I mean "ALL" TPG services are subject to mistakes/errors in their business practices, which is getting people to send them their coins to be graded then slabbed for a handsome fee. PCGS can screw up as well as NGC and ICG and so on. But for some reason the populous seems to believe that PCGS demands a premium and I believe that point shows the ignorance of the populous to "trust" one company more so then others that they will pay more maybe too much more for the same product that you could purchase raw, for much less, if they only had the skills to make their own judgments on grade and authenticity. Just the same....Keep On Collecting!!! Allen
