Nyatii I like running w/scissors. Makes me feel dangerous

I would be surprised if 1% ever gets known publicly.
It would be neat to know though.

  3. I know When it happens I will probably release some lower end stuff at my local convenience and grocery stores, Even though I haven't registered with the deal.

I guess it depends on how the tipper monetizes the coin/bill. If for example, they leave $10.50. It's a regular $10 bill and a $50 vf WLH. Then your comment would not be an issue.

Anyway, I understand what you're trying to say, I'm just looking at it from a different angle.

If they want to add extra like that I don't think anyone would have a problem with that.

That said, do I think they would do it that way no.

    Hard to predict human behavior.

  7. I think this is a cool idea. However, since so many people use electronic payments now and do not even use coins anymore, it may not reach the younger generations. I will sometimes release a collectible coin in the wild by simply dropping for example a 1921 Morgan dollar on a sidewalk. Maybe donating some coins to local youth groups such as BSA or clubs would work better to promote interest in the hobby.

That's why when I leave a special coin it is in addition to the regular tip. (and I normally tip 25 to 30%. They aren't getting shorted.)

I haven't heard anything else about this since January... wondering if it's gonna be a dud...

I strongly suspect so. But we will probably see an increase in the number of wheat cents and dateless buffalos in circulation briefly.

I have received numismatic as tips twice. Once an uncirculated 2 dollar bill which quickly became destroyed while I worked. The other time it was a BU common wheat cent in a 2x2 cardboard flip which is now covered in black tarnish spots (probably because it became quickly coated in sweat in my pocket). So, from experience, I must say that the idea of giving numismatic items as tips is novel but highly impractical.

I really hope they gave you more than just that wheat cent

The best way to get the youth involved and interested in coins is a treasure hunt:)
I have two boys and they are just getting interested in coins. I started with a piggy bank. Then I bought some kids metal detectors and let them run around searching the neighborhood. They found a two dollar euro and some aluminum foil. Now they want to go out more and look for old coins! I decided I’m going to get a treasure box and burry it somewhere where they can find it on the property with a treasure map. This should be fun! I’ll let you know how it turns out:)

Ohh I almost forgot to tell you what I am putting in it. I’m putting some of my silver coins and a few gold coins. I ordered some ancient coins and some gems from a local company. I’m just looking for some cheap gold rings and necklaces to make it complete like a real pirate treasure!! A har yee matties!
