I can't offer any info on these but I have a threepence piece. ENGLAND. Elizabeth I Silver Hammered Threepence, 1578
Well, Beverly and I are having more fun than the law allows cleaning out my Scriptorium/Man-cave - I am unearthing “odds and ends” cigar and shoe boxes full of all kinds of trinkets and boyhood collectibles (aka “junk”). Some of those items were deposited fifty or more years ago - some were tossed in much more recently. I have even found a few coins (no Ancients of any note though) that I saved “to be researched later when I have time” (you know how that goes!) such as the Elizabeth I shilling I posted earlier. Well here is a James I shilling I found that was given to me about forty years ago by a (now deceased) coin collector friend - he thought I should have it, first because my name is James and second, because I am an amateur student and researcher of the English Civil wars and this coin has a somewhat tenuous association with that period. As I said when I posted the Elizabeth I coin, I know very little about these issues. I would appreciate any additional information or comments anyone can provide about this coin: Obverse inscription: JACOBVS DG ANG SCO FRA ET HIB REX (James by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland) Reverse inscription: EXERGAT DEVS DISSPENTER INIMICI (Let God arise and his enemies be scattered) My friend included the following attribution tag written by him:
