1909 VDB wheat penny how rare is it

I have come across a 1909 VDB wheat penny , does this carry any value?

Pictures would help immensely here. Almost 28 million 09 VDBs were minted, so no, it is not "rare".

 

But it does carry premium over face value.

 

Dont know how educated you are in coins. But your cent is well stories and is the first year that Mister Lincoln adorned the cent. Unless it is a mint state example, it doesn’t have great value. But does have great history behind it!

 

Maybe not much of value, but then again everyone doesn't have one at all.
Besides given the history of the VDB we really are guessing at the number still available. I don't find rolls of them on ebay anywhere anytime. That should tell a collector something. The General

I just think there is a difference in rarity between a VDB and a 1975 D. It would be inaccurate to compare the 2 and deem both of them to be not rare.

 

The 1909 VDB is worth relatively more than other coins in the same quantity.
Supply and demand. There is a demand for this coin.
Uncleaned and in decent condition $10 or $15 is possible.
But without photos, it's all speculation.

 

An 09 S VDB shouldn't even be considered rare. Just because something has a big price tag doesnt mean it's rare. Most high prices you see, especially on cents, are because of demand. Demand dicates price most of the time.

Perfect example of this: I own a 1909 S VDB in VF30 by NGC. Paid $700 for it.
I also have a small bronze coin from the ancient city of Miletos (present day coastal Turkey). This particular coin was minted sometime between 400-350 BC. It is consider an experimental piece from the time. It's 1 of 3 known. Paid just over $100 for it.
The word rare is used wrong more often than not anymore. JMHO.

 

~28 mil vs ~4.5 bil. Obviously 28 mil is “rare” in comparison. But it is still not a “rare” coin.

I don't think this is about an S VDB.

 

I can't recall anyone asking "is this coin scarce?". It seem that Rare is always the question. Must be just human nature or maybe just lack of knowledge.

 

I didnt say it was. Obviously the op coin is an 09 philly VDB. Mintage of 27,995,000. Not a rare coin.
My example was about a 1909 S VDB. Mintage 484,000. Also not a rare coin.

My point wasnt about op's coin it was about rarity.

Anything else you need me to explain about my previous point?
