I think the Peace is AT, based on the toning pattern, and also it just looks "heat treated" to me.

I would say those spots by themselves wouldn't make me question the toning (I'd agree with your assessment of improper storage). However, the obverse combined with the reverse is just too reminiscent of the coins that I've seen gassed by edynamicmarketing (if you search there should be some before and after pics of those).

This one is much worse, but here is a sample of his "work"

I would have bypassed this Peace Dollar anyway. I don't collect Peace Dollars and, to me, it has non desirable toning, NT or AT.

I'm surprised it was so close.

I've been trying to understand this thread and I'm so confused. What was the consensus? Does the person that posted actually know if I'd AT or NT? And is the result what the poster thinks or what coin grading says?

NVM I re-read the rules. I get it now I don't have any that might have slipped past graders.

Lehigh wants people to post coins in straight graded holders that they believed are AT.

I'm glad that you could understand my original post despite the egregious typo!

MA - The color progressions are correct and under the patina - cool coin IMO!

The second picture is the probably what you'd see in hand. Have to angle the light/coin to get that first picture. ...it's all about the light. Shots like that can make a great coin look like hell. Obviously taken to capture the color underneath. A good supplemental picture but the second pic is the real one.

There is no such thing as AT/NT, a coin is either MA or not. :)

Next up is a nickel. Now note that it's a 1996 and not from the 50s-70s era (that is why I'm posting it here for opinions).

I respect Segos, but he is wrong on this IMHO. Blue and purple do not mix like that on nickel coinage. I vote AT.

Even with the over saturation, I would have to say AT/QC.

Not MA, but I would buy it if cheap enough. I say AT

It would be AT no matter what era that coin is from.

I think it is worth mentioning that this coin resides in a PCGS Gen8 holder that was used 2000-2002 IIRC. So this coin was only about 5 years old when it was slabbed. There is no natural process that can tone a coin that deeply in just 5 years.
