If you know what it is then send it in to get slabbed so you can sell your rarity for millions.

    Take care.

Looks like it was a grease filled strike before it was put into circulation and is now damaged.

I started collecting about a year and a half ago and have some really amazing pieces but as a new collector my biggest concern is people not believing in me are my pieces, I can't explain what I see in these fabulous finds but it's there and my eyes is what motors the drive in me sir, nit the money part of it. I love to do this.

I can respect that you are collecting what you like, however, have you read up on the minting process? Do you fully understand how coins are minted?

If you did, it will open you up to new understandings and insights. Maybe what you think you have now really isint what you think it is and maybe you are missing some really cool stuff.

How are you obtaining your collecting knowledge?

IvI' purchased a red book and done lots of research on various things but nothing major. Also have a 1741 lima Peru Gold cob I believe it is the real deal but honestly I don't know.

    Mods, do your job.
How many more "my damaged parking lot penny is a priceless rare treasure" threads do we have to endure?

It's not a matter of believing in you, it's a matter of knowing and understanding the FACTS. If I believe the car in my driveway is a Porsche, why should I become concerned when I ask questions and am told that the badge on the back says Civic. It's great to believe, but no matter how much I want that car to be a Porsche, it will always be a Civic.

Congrats, you've made my Do Not Respond list. It's too bad if you really are a collector who wants help, because you may have squandered a great resource in the members of Coin Talk.

Its hard to understand the people on this site at times. Listen, as personal as it seems its probably not. Ive been off and on here for awhile. If you read some of the crap thats posted, you would understand their quick fuse and frustration. At any given point read all the posting on "errors" for just the first page. Usually ALL of them are PMD or machined etc. and on the rare occasion, there is something legit. These guys cringe after years of looking at trash. Im guilty! I used to post all kinds of garbage but learned to keep only my most researched coins off this site. I wait until Ive done my own research thoroughly before posting for an opinion if I think its a true variety DD.

A coin cannot leave the dies looking like that. The dies being parallel to each other a coin struck by them has to be flat. There very well may be another similar damaged 1977, but that won't change the fact that it is just damage.

What did Thomas Lincoln say to Abe before he next saw him return all beaten and scarred? . . . Go outside and play in the street for a while.
