Could this 5 Centavos (Filipinas) 1921 be MS?

    Hi All

I have this beautiful original surface 1921 5 centavos - I am wondering if this could be a low MS - like MS60?

There seems to be no wear marks, it has a lot of luster and where the back looks worn I believe is a worn out die, based on the die crack going through the 9 on the obverse and continuing through the right wing of the eagle to the edge. Also the obverse crack above the MER

    Thank you!

The luster and the crisp details are not there for MS.
Someone probably cleaned it at one point. (Not harshly.)
Even if it's XF/AU it's a nice coin. IDK if it's details or not.
Looks like a die crack though the 9.

I don’t think it’s been cleaned, since it has nice radial luster on both sides that really doesn’t show up in the pics. I would be happy at AU :). I really like this series of coins and it was a fun find. Yes the die crack goes through the 9, another goes from the right wing to the rim, and yet another goes along the top of MER and then connects to the rim. (Which is why I thought it might be a Worn die and not handling wear)

I said it may have been cleaned, although not harshly. It's been almost 100 years and it's very likely. The reason I said that is because of the lack of luster. Even an XF coin will still show some luster.
This one has a very flat look. Which is often a look from being cleaned.

Thank you for elaborating! I always thought luster was the very first thing to go when a coin is cleaned, lightly or not! Still learning these things!

I'm not going to comment on the grade, but I do like any coin with a volcano spewing!

Solid XF in my less-than-expert opinion. Nice coin. Keep it!
