My daughter (half-Japanese) is getting ready to have a son. Her husband is from India. How would I best go about getting a proof or uncirculaated set from India and Japan for this year, or would it be better to wait and look for secondary sources (e-bay)?
Any set from India is going to be pricey no mater where you find them. Here is a link to India Site: http://www.spmcil.com/Interface/Products_mumbai_circulating.aspx?menue=2 Japan should be a little easier, but I don't know if you will find anything current: https://www.mint.go.jp/eng/qa-eng/eng_qa_overseasqa_contract.html Perhaps @gxseries might have some help with the Japan Coins. The only sets I have from Japan are a 1971 Mint and a 1991 Proof. The Proofs are very nice. I have never been able to find a set from India at a reasonable price. You might consider getting a commemorative coin dated 2019 from the 2 countries.
Hm this is an interesting one. Japan has been releasing inter country relationship coins which appeals to mixed marriage. India isn't on the list yet. https://www.mint.go.jp/eng/coin-eng/foreign_coins.html The only couple of things that I can think of right away that relate to Japan and India is curry and train. Sadly curry would not be a commemorative theme but train is a good topic. Japan is currently financing India to build its first bullet train with Japanese technology. Both countries have coins with trains so maybe that's an idea?
