I think it may have a small premium to some, no premium for others. If you are putting together a famous hoard collection, it might be worth a few extra bucks to you. The Binion story is a heck of a tale.
Yeah, I have four of the Binion coins and was looking at some others sets they have blue and red sets... don't know if there is a difference yet or not..... your right I need to do some reading..
There is nothing particularly outstanding about many of the specimens of the Binion Hoard. Personally, I think most of their attractiveness to collectors is because of the historical ties to Las Vegas. The same could be said about the Fitzgerald Hoard and its ties to Reno. Chris
It’s a neat little piece of Vegas history. I have one Morgan that I got at the first coin shop I ever went to.
I would say 100 Percent yes ! and a nice premium as well anything with a story like that would bring allot of extra $$$$ Especially in a place where i live here in Las Vegas Not sure why they didnt certify it as well with a grade ?
The example above is in an NCS slab. At one point NGC used NCS slabs for problem coins. I can't tell from the picture, but I would guess that Morgan is either cleaned or has environmental damage. As for Binion pedigreed slabs, people do collect these and the story helps these coins maintain a premium in the market.
I think it would have been a plus, even if it had problems to list those Saying its from the Binion collection alone is only part of the story.
Whoever was selling the group likely thought "Genuine" would be an easier sell than "Details-Cleaned" or "Details-Environmental Damage."
Agreed, but having the details when have been nice even though they May not paint a very rosy picture...LOL
I agree it would be nice for collectors to have all the information. For those trying to sell the coins, not quite as nice....
I noticed your a Blackhawk,s fan, looks like were in the same Situation, i am a Kings fan trying to stay out of the seller...LOL
It’s uncirculated, with terminal black toning and a cool little rainbow streak on the reverse. Environmental damage for sure.
I have a Peace dollar from the Binion hoard. 1923 MS65. It’s cool enough, but I didn’t pay a premium for it and wouldn’t expect much of one, if any, if I sold it.
I bought one a 1922 Peace dollar graded ms63 it has a great luster an some bag marks what was nice it came with a great looking and very informative, full history of Binion booklet to compliment to coin!
