Hello everyone, I have a friend that has a beat 1877 IHC. The date is clear, full libery, however there is rim corrison on a good part of it. With out a scan right now what do you think this would go for? Just looking for rough ideas. Reagrds, S
1877 G-4 (trends)= $850, so divide by 2= $425, divide by 3= $141. Well, I guess it depends upon how ugly. I wouldn't go over $75 myself.
Hello everyone, I brought my friends coin home and scanned it. Here is the obverse: Here is the reverse: If you can let me know what you all think, what you would grade it at, and what its worth is roughly. Regards, S
Ugh, thats rough and its very sad to see. Tell him best bet is ebay. Tell them you know its in rough shape, but hey its a key date and it has full liberty
I don;t think he is interested in selling it. He found it via metal detector. i thought he was joking until he showed it to me. I see the full liberty, and nearly cried. Reverse is nice to...except the corrosion.
Geeeze. What a shame it's in such poor shape. But what can you expect from a 131 year old coin that been unearthed since ?? years deteriorating in the elements. I've got an 1877 IHC graded AG3 with scratches that looks better than that (IMO). The earth can be cruel to coins. On the other hand, he's got the key coin of the set and maybe he can sell it and upgrade to something better. Bruce
hey thats a whole different story then. If he found that with a metal detector, wow. That is quite the find and a coin to be proud of.
Cool that it was a dug coin. He should have it slabbed by ANACS. Can you imagine the title on the holder? Corroded, kinda fine details at points, not complete, environmental damage. Conversely he could send it to SGS first. Probably AU on their Richter scale.
Man, that is one rough coin! But not a half bad find for metal detecting. :thumb: Make a nice hole filler IMHO. Or a Pr-60. Phoenix
WOW, thats a dig coin ????? What a great find...he should send a pic to the company that makes the MD he used, and the store he bought it from, they might use his pic in an ad !! Way cool !!!!!
Nice find! It is hard to tell for sure because of the coin being so dark, But I don't think it is authentic. Look at the reverse "one cent". This area has a weak strike on authentic 1877's. Also the second seven on the obverse doesn't look right. Could be my eyes or the picture being dark. Anyways, I would get it graded at anacs.
Hello everyone, Thanks for the suggestions and comments. Going to be hard tio decide who to have it slabbed. here are the choices I think. BNT (fairly new but they have a gaurrenteed MS 70 program so...J/K) SGS, Min Grade MS69....Not to bad...lol All joking aside. I am going to have him read all this. I thought it may of been worth more. Now someone thinks it maybe fake. . I will see if he wants it graded from one of the top four. That would really blow to find it is a fake, if he has it graded I will let you know the grade. Regards, S
