    Hello guys,

I’m trying to get into CRH and I have a few beginner questions.

First, do I need an account with a bank to ask for boxes of coins? I just got back from my local TD Bank and they turned me away for not being an account holder.

Second, are nickels a good place to start? I’m trying to fill an album right now with the earlier date Jeffersons.

    Thanks in advance.

Never heard of a problem purchasing a box of coins. However most banks (that I know of) will require an account to deposit rolled coins..... I still see early date Jefferson's in circulation so I would imagine that CRH'ing with nickels would be rewarding.

CRHing has become all the rage ever since the price of silver shot up to almost $50 years ago. The problem that most banks face is that it costs them money to order these boxes from their suppliers. That is why more and more banks are stiffening their requirements for ordering rolls of coins.

The teller told me they had boxes in the back but she still wouldn’t give me a box of nickels without an account :/

I understand the issues with ordering boxes but it seems pretty lame that they would reject someone without having to place any orders.

Is this one of TD Bank’s official policies or an unusual experience?

A lot of banks are moving away from giving out boxes if you aren't a business because they know most of them will just end up getting deposited again.

Even if they had a box on hand for you, that's the supplies they have on hand. So if they give that to you they will have to order more to replace that or order more when an actual customer comes in.

Most banks will give you a roll or two if you ask for change for something, but you won't be able to get boxes without an account and even then you still may not be able to

I have an account at every bank that I visit just for the simple fact that I don't want to have to deal with the whole inquisition when I ask for change. It is a very fragile situation when you go for coinage at a bank. First and foremost, get an account. It will cost you nothing. I belong to 3 banks and don't pay any fees at any of them. #2, realize that they have to pay a premium for these boxes so giving them to you is a benefit. Be nice to your tellers, don't expect that the bank has to give you a box and be just as happy if they say they don't have boxes and only have customer wrapped rolls. #3, call in advance. Tell them you area regular account holder and you would like a box of nickels but you want to make sure they have them before you drive over there. If you frequent one bank they may want you to order them rather than just call. #4, DO NOT DUMP YOUR CHANGE AT THE BANK THAT YOU GOT IT AT! NEVER EVER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started with cents, you can start with nickels, either way, do what makes you happy!
    Happy hunting!!!
