I think this is a counterfeit. Can anyone help?

    What you probably heard was that chromium is used to alter a coin's fields so they look mirror-like. Otherwise, verify anything that person tells you in the future.

    What he probably more likely heard was that modern dies are often chrome plated to prolong their life. This chrome finish gives them mirrored surfaces.
