@PlanoSteve thanks a lot! And I am looking forward to hearing on your thoughts about my future posts. I am excited, no matter what! Thanks again!
@sunday13 , it's always great to get new collectors on the site. Your exuberance is awesome. Let us know how we can help in any way.
I'll add my voice to those welcoming you, @sunday13, and add one other thing: We get people here every day who've read about a rarity online, or watched a YouTube video, and think they've found one in their pocket change. Rarities are rare, and the chances of finding one in change are small -- it does happen, just like people do win the lottery, but a lot more people lose. Some of those people don't like hearing that they haven't "struck it rich", and storm off in a huff, insisting that we don't know what we're talking about. Frequently, their parting comment is "I'm going to go ahead and send it in, and then you'll see!" Almost none of them EVER come back and post a follow-up showing the graded coin. It may be because they never actually sent the coin in, or it may be because they got it back in a slab confirming that it's common and/or damaged, and they don't want to be held up for ridicule. You didn't post here first asking about your coin, but you did post your results. That's valuable to every new collector who stumbles across CoinTalk. Thank you for doing it. And to those members here who started to pile on about sending a low-value coin for authentication: think about what you're doing. Think about the two behaviors that we see here -- newbies insisting that they know better than us (every day), and newbies admitting they made a mistake (a lot less frequent). Think about which one you'd rather see, and think about which one your replies are encouraging.
@Kentucky I am happy you asked. Well, first of all, only US modern.( I don't have the experience, the budget or the time to deal with anything else, even though I 'd wish I had) But still, modern is a bit vague; I mean I am in love (deeply in love) with pennies 1909 and on and Washington Quarters. (still I have a couple of dimes and nickels worth posting for your thoughts)I tried my best with those, (condition wise; I sent a couple already for grading and I failed-the best I got was a 1991 MS66 red penny) but now I will be focusing on errors mainly. I am not native, so that's not on my advantage, but I study a lot and trying my best! I remain positive and I enjoy every moment of it!
All else being equal, there has to be some people who have read about/watched videos about rarities and realized that nothing they have seen in their change is an actual rarity. I assume these people do not show up here on CoinTalk. Still I wonder what the ratio is between those that are clueless and those that "get it". I'd hope it would be much less than 1 clueless to 10 "get it". But I fear that reality is it might just be the opposite - 10 clueless to 1 "get it". It sure does seem we see a majority of the clueless.
@-jeffB you brought me to tears. You know why? Because it's not only about coin hunting or a hobby for one to spent time, energy and money. It's an effort and a purpose; of any kind ,at any time , for any thing. I hate drama and I have a thick skin for people who speak without considering the consequences; on the other hand I DO pay my respects to people like you , among others, spending time to make a point. I do believe that you made your point. So don't thank me for posting my "mistake". I thank YOU for posting your reply.
@CoinCorgi Believe me, there is such thing as a stupid ANSWER. And don't get me wrong, I am not referring to you. So listen, when I see posts of people asking about the difference between a Red, Red Brown and Brown, I thing "OMG" , man! do your research before posting! this is what I "think"; this is not what I will "post" . Can you tell the difference? I m sure you can. Regarding " clueless" , I don't blame you. Still, if half of us weren't clueless, according to your definition, there would be no purpose of this forum. I am not sure about the coins, but as far as my words are concerned, I choose them wisely. Again I would be more than glad to have your opinion and your comments( of any kind) , replying to my posts. Cause I am here to stay! Thank you again. Sincerely
Uh oh, now you're following me. I didn't mean to imply you were included in the clueless group - you did your research/learning and never asked a "stupid question". The purpose of this forum is not solely to ask questions, it is primarily to share knowledge and pictures of shiny things. This site would continue to exist even if the clueless stopped posting "stupid questions". Glad you found CoinTalk.
I didn't think you implied anything bad. I am just sharing my thoughts. Don't get anything wrong! AND I am truly happy this forum will continue to exist, no matter what! Now let's post some coins! Thanks @CoinCorgi !
I follow because I wonna learn from you. that's the goal right? I believe you are sharing! Thank you again
I will keep the report open for a while in case problems come up again . Just got in from fun stuff work. Jim.
No problems came up so far. which report? I am happy people are working and having fun at the same time! Good for you Jim!
@Joshua Pearson , my friend, it is obvious that you don't even get what people here are trying to tell you. They mean well. Why don't you follow their advice and relax a little bit. your "thanks" doesn't make sense, as well as a lot of the comments you post. You did not join here to make friends, but the least you can do is act as an adult. Good luck with everything Kyriaki
