penny brown or red !?!?

    Yes, there are 67BN out there.

    There are four different categories to grading and that is:
    Strike, Luster, Eye appeal, and Contact marks.

    It shouldn't matter what color the cent is when determining grade.
    A copper coin begins turning color as soon as it is minted.
    This would make one believe that there should be more coins in BN that grade higher on the scale. That is not the case. Most BN's top out at about 66 or 66+.
    The grades 67 and above are simply held for coins that are considered exceptional in all category's.

    I am sure this could be argued but I believe that most BN cents do not make the 67 level because of the amount of oxides on the surface. This thin layer will inhibit the amount of luster the coin shows.

    Here are three Lincoln wheat cents and one Indian graded 67BN.

    There are only 10 Lincoln wheat cents with 67BN grades

    These next two are 67BN but could also have been designated RB

    The third one has a chip in the 5. But I can easily see them all in 67BN. RB denotes some mint color which none of these have.
