Hi All Pulled this out of my old Whitman book for my type set (Dansko 7070) and Im 95% certain this is the small date, but seeing so many people ask the same question I am second guessing myself. Thank you!
Yep a small date. Looks very nice and smooth surfaces. Most of these have a lot more plating plisters. What does the reverse look like?
Really? I didn’t even realize it was hard to find in good shape. I thought the spot on the front in Lincoln’s hair killed any value. It’s been in a Whitman for 30 years and I’m pretty sure I pulled it out of pocket change in 1985
These aren't easy to find with nice smooth surfaces. The spot will most likely work against the grade. But still real nice for a zinc D small date. If a circulation find then it's possible to have circulation wear that I can't see in the photos. The Wittman should be fine. but is probably the reason for the spot.
looks like someone shot him in the head LOL ... thinking of the couple others posted with the same bubble plating problem in about the same location.
I think it I think it looks like detritus and not damage. An acetone soak might fix that but would acetone react poorly to the zinc?
Unless you are sure of what it is I don't recommend an acetone soak. Acetone removes organic's it does nothing to toning. Plus this coin looks like it has a nice skin on it. It also doesn't appear to have any kind circulation wear. I would leave it alone unless you can see something stuck to the coin. Acetone can sometimes change the aged/original look of a coin.
