Yes, it appears to be small date look at the "larger, taller" 8 and especially the outward bowing/curve of the 2 going into the base; versus that segment being straight. FYI, you may want to crop photos before you post them. Most if not all phones have this basic capability. Makes it easier for us.
It's worth about a 1 cent. Maybe 2 cents in metal content ... Don't read/video clickbait website or youtube videos. There's tons out there hawking 1982 cents as worth a million dollars when they're not. Those places are after likes and stuff for their advertisers to make money off of you.
In short, The 7 Business Strike Varieties (8 total with the 1 rare one): LARGE DATE Philadelphia 1982 Large Date Copper 1982 Large Date Copper plated Zinc SMALL DATE Philadelphia 1982 Small Date Copper 1982 Small Date Copper plated Zinc LARGE DATE “D” - Denver 1982 D Large Date Copper 1982 D Large Date Copper plated Zinc SMALL DATE “D” - Denver 1982 D Small Date Copper plated Zinc 1982-D small date copper (1 or 2 known to exist). This is the one all the fake youtube videos are made for thinking you can find one making it seem they are readily available and easily found. There is also a 1982-S Large Date which is not included because it is a PROOF.
Let it be known that I gave you a "Like" specifically for your detailed explanation. Personally, I think this info should be pinned to the top somewhere along with the photo you posted so the BoobTubers will read it first. Who wants to have to repeat themselves one thousand times? Chris
You have no idea how many postings there are for 1982 cents all looking for the same, exact thing. I reply to them every once in a while .... Wish we had a chart on the side of each major clickbait postings we get per week, month, year.
Ty i will try to choose my posts more carefully I thought that was what this site was all about to learn i guess I'll find somewhere else to post ty
It's worth 1 cent. The metal value is not worth 2 cents even if there is 2 cents of copper in there as it is an alloyed coin and to extract the copper is expensive, and if it were legal to melt copper cents for metal content, you would receive 1/2 cent for every cent. It is only valuable in mint state grade. About 50 cents high retail.
No one said anything out of line to you. We just get SO many new members asking about small date 82 cents, thinking they have the rare one, because they saw it on a YouTube video. Good info was also given on the different types. You need to have a little thicker skin!
Nothing wrong with your question. it was a reasonable question and you got quick, accurate info. As others have said, CT gets many, many many questions like this. IMO, Chris did not post that to slam you, he posted it as a comment for any other new collectors that may see this thread and as a "relief" from dealing with new collectors that insist CT members don't know what they're talking about, when we tell them the truth that many youtube click bait videos don't. (and you're not arguing, so that doesn't pertain to you either.) Hang out, read the posts, ask questions and learn. Welcome to CT
Here is what's wrong with Internet numismatics, jus' sayin'. If you have this kind of attitude, and you're going to be THIS thin-skinned, stay out of the coin hobby. Or maybe pick up a copy of the "Red Book" before posting on forums.
I copied and pasted to put in my file. Many of my LMC are uncirculated in plastic or proofs and it is difficult to examine them . So this is really helpful.
FYI, In regards to the disinformation you'll see a lot of "false hope" sales on eBay or other places. For instance, there is a 1982 (not even a 1982 D ) small date Cent on Etsy for $25,000. It's only $24,999.99 over priced. oh, the good thing about that sale .. free shipping. #1 It's not rare #2 it's not even a 1982 D This makes one think that they may have the same valuation on their small date 1982. We get plenty of posts like this. Just search 1982 penny in the top right.
