    Hey guys!

So I decided to hunt through a few dollar coins recently in addition to my box of pennies and I found a wounded eagle! Its confirmed that it is indeed a wounded eagle. Its in really good condition but its been circulated. I posted a few pics and would like some input on what grade you guys think this coin is. I was thinking its somewhere between MS62-MS64. Any thoughts, I'm going to get this graded and I am just trying to get a rough idea of what the grade will come out as. Thanks for reading! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Before you jump the gun to have it graded and authenticated, have you checked for completed sales on eBay to get some idea of its current value? The cost of grading along with the additional charge for authentication might make the submission more than it is worth.

No less than $150-200, Hertatage Auction has Sold one in MS66-MS67 (I forget) for $2300+. So It should be worth it, the coin I have is in really good condition, not proof but most likely MS62+ (my opinion).

The value of a coin 4-5 points lower than that Heritage sale can drop severely. I hope you get more input from others.

The coin cannot be in good condition "Circulated" and be MS anything at the same time. MS = mint state, AU= almost uncirculated, then XF, EF, VF, etc......
If the coin is a wounded bird , neat and congrats for finding one but the coin will not carry even close to a graded MS 66.

Can you post clearer pics and orient them the right way? I have been looking for one of these for quite some time. @TexAg you should be looking for this too.

First, congrats @Stephen Betz on finding this coin. I've been looking for one now off and on for a year, no luck. Every time I find a 2000-P, I first look at the tail feathers for a "Cheerios" dollar (lol), and then I look at the breast for a "Wounded Eagle". Like @SlipperySocks said, I would like to see better focused pictures with a few closes ups and yes, oriented correctly. If you have a loupe, try taking a picture through the loupe with your phone.

Well, I disagree, this coin looks to be barely circulated at all and according to the grading scale it could be in the low MS Range.

Here is the best pic I could take, about to take one with flash to capture the error better.

Here is one with the flash, you can clearly see one of the two spears going through the breast of the eagle.

Hadn't heard about this. Now I will have to go through my Sac's. Thanks.
The 2000-P "Wounded Eagle" Sacagawea Dollar is so-named because of a raised die flaw that cuts across the eagle's belly.

Please note that I think it is truly awesome that you found the coin. I would love to find one. I only wished to provide you the appropriate information regarding your assessment of the coin.

Mint state is a condition given to coins at a certain level, between 60 and 70, on the Sheldon Grading Scale. Mint state coins have never been in circulation

You indicated that the coin was circulated therefore your coin regardless of what grade you believe it to be, by very definition it cannot grade Mint State. IMHO your coin is AU 56 at best. This should not detract from the fact that I think it is a wonderful coin and would be happy to own one.

However based on your description of the coin and the basic inaccuracies and misunderstanding of MS v AU and circulated coins you are assigning a higher grade than it should rate. But hey, send it to a TPG. I would just to get it authenticated
