Picked this one up off the web the other day...Interesting History with this one I thought. http://www.greatseal.com/peace/diplomaticmedal.html
that is an amazing original piece, probably for a mother memorializing her child. At that time infant death from infections was extremely high. I would like to believe it was for a living child, but history makes me think otherwise. These artifacts need to be preserved for future generations.
I like that token a lot, Idhair. Do you know when it was approximately issued. Looks to be 1850s or earlier, but just a guess. Thanks for posting it. Bruce
NUTS was reported because it was not profane. It is much more likely that a paratrooper would have said BALLS. Which would have had the same meaning.
I cruise now and then and nowadays cruise ships don't use $1 gambling tokens, as it's done electronically, occasionally you'll see .25 tokens in a "penny falls" machine, but as often they use quarters. I was given three free spins on a slot machine as part of my package, and on one ship was given three of these. There was an X on each side I guess so I wouldn't try to redeem them. I used two, won nothing and happily kept the third.
