First, welcome to the neighborhood, Patrick! You'll have to be more specific. I don't know what you mean. Are you referring to tokens, in general, or are you referring to a specific token? Chris
Thxs for the warm welcome. I just got this coin from Tunisia. And looking at the 46th edition (2019) of Krause, if you look page 2173 my 1941 1 franc coin (KM# 247), is listed under "Anonymous token coinage". No clue what that means. Thxs Pat
From Merriam Webster... token coin noun plural token coins Definition of token coin : a coin having an intrinsic value less than its face value — compare standard coin … if the metal content of a quarter is worth less than its face value of 25 cents, the quarter is a token coin.— Money and Banking, 1985
What you have is a French Trade Token issued during WWII. More information here: http://www.chiefacoins.com/Database/Countries/French_Tunisian_Tokens.htm
I think in this case it means that it wasn't issued by the official government, but I think they did circulate as money. The same is true for French 1 and 2 francs from the 1920s. I just think of them as regular coins in this case.
