By doing this I learned I need to work on lighting and more important I need to do focus stacking. Other improvements I make are just going to cut down on the time making these. This coin is very striking in hand and almost looks gilded, I imagine it has a decent percentage of silver in it.

Awesome photo work. How'd you manage that?

Also, the only ancient coins I actively collect are ones that depict Christ on them; this is very cool. :)

Interesting! I would suggest using manual white balance if your camera allows it and softer light bounced around the room rather than directed at the coin. While I am a big fan of focus stacking, I have never tried it with video or animation. That would be a lot of images.

    Hi David,

Taking side view images of coins is hard! Good job on that :).

I hope you don't mind but I did some tweaking to adjust the tilt and color.

Wow. That is great! The images of the edge are amazing.

Here's one of my early GIFs where we just changed the lighting direction:

I made a jig that allows me to make aligned images while the coin is rotating. Take a lot of photos then use a program to make a gif. Right now it takes hours to make, I hope to cut that down drastically.

It does have manual white balance, but I've never used it before. I will play with it. I've booked marked a few pages to improve my setup. Stacking will be a lot of photos, I would like to get the time to make these down to be an hour or less.

Not at all, it improved it a lot. Honestly these cup coins are harder to do than a flat coin. Maybe one day I will become a halfway decent photographer by making these?
