Or did I miss it? I went back to the same bank but different branch today and bought two more boxes that I ordered last week. Both are Loomis. I opened both to check for enders. One had Loomis yellow wrappers - nada. The other had the gold Loomis wrappers - the same color as the 5 ender, 71 silver box from Saturday. Well, this box has 7 enders, the most I have ever found! Told the wife we will go through it together when she feels better. She had a small (thank God) melanoma skin cancer removed today and is resting with her leg elevated. Here's a pic with the enders all arranged together (they were spread throughout the box). Will post results when I have them....

@TexAg your 7 ender box should hold 60-70 coins, and maybe a few more...fun!

I searched a couple hundred dollars worth of mwr halves and about $100 worth cwr halves tonight and found a magician coin. I believe this is my 4th. Better than nothing!

@berto You were very close! The wife searched the rolls with me (with her leg elevated on a chair at the kitchen table) and it was was a great box - 75 silvers! A fair amount of skunk rolls (~12), but some nice multiple silver rolls with the best a 6 banger. Here's the tally:

First merc of the new year.

 

My last box of the week (unless I find one tomorrow, lol) was a Loomis box with Loomis yellow wrappers. It had one ender so I was hopeful. Results were good with 12 silvers found:

1 x 1964-D
5 x 1967
5 x 1968-D
1 x 1987-S
1 x 1999-S
4 x 2002+ NIFCs

It’s been a great 7 day stretch with 163 silvers found!

 

The first $250 of the $500 bag of mwr halves yielded only an impaired 77S proof. I really don’t like these local bags of rolls

 

@berto ! I haven't heard of bags of rolls before. Is that from a bank like Wells Fargo where you have to roll your coins to cash them in because they got rid of their coin counting machines couple of years ago? And maybe they send the bag off with their courier? If so an even $500 bag, if obtained from the same customer, is almost a certainty to be a CRH dump. This would be similar to what I run into sometimes, a full box of re-wrapped coins. Those boxes are always a skunk for me. Sometimes I will find a proof or some NIFCs, but I avoid buying them if I can. Perhaps you can first ask if one customer brought all $500 in. Anyways, I hope I am wrong about your bag and you find some silvers in it!

While I was dumping halves yesterday, I got some good news, one of my banks informed me another order was not picked up so I was able to get another two boxes, the bad news is they are skunks. As a CRH its important to pickup boxes we order, individuals who are in this hobby and are not responsible and pick up their boxes affect all of us. We want to keep them happy and they get frustrated when individuals order and don't pickup their order. Let you bank managers know if they have other individuals who order and do not pickup that you will take them off their hands if you can. The good news of is while I was dumping I found 3-40%ers that I missed, 1-65, 1-67 and 1-68. That is what can happen when one is only checking edges only, these 40%er showed a bunch of copper they fall into the good category. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Keep Stacking!!!!!

 

Well said @Arby ! Several times I have been offered an extra box by a vault teller who ordered a box for a customer who didn't pick it up. Keeping that in mind, I just reduced my 2 box / week to 1 box / week from one of my banks. That puts me at 4 boxes / week which is about my dump capacity (i.e. not wearing out my welcome at my dump bank, ).

 

Bottom line upfront is my area is a dead zone wrt finding collectible halves in mwrs. I wish I lived in an area with coin counters in most banks and credit unions.

The bags of mwr halves I get locally are delivered to my banks by either Loomis or the other local-branded coin courier. The coins have been handled (e.g., sorted, counted and rolled) at the courier facility (aka “The Fed”) as mwrs are typically handled, same as everywhere else in the nation. Note, I do not believe “The Fed” facilities in my area have the newer coin sorting/counting/rolling machines that reject silver.

There are very few coin counters within 100 miles of me. Only 1 credit union chain offers a counter, and only at a couple branches. Their coin counters have an 8% fee for nonmembers, and 3% fee for members, so the counters are only lightly used based on my observations. I do not know if the counters reject silver. I intend to test this sometime.

Anyway, at any other local bank or cu all coins must be rolled by the customer to be deposited, and tellers are required to re-count the coins (if they are doing their job according to bank procedures and confirming the deposit) before the coins are sent to “The Fed“. As a result, the collectible halves are heavily sniped, and recharge of collectibles to the system via the few coin counters is extremely low.

Pretty dismal for me. I pickup as many cwr halves as I can find, but there aren’t many, and the vast majority are other CRHer dumps. Such is life. I’ll keep at it only because I enjoy the hobby and am obsessed with half dollars

By the way, the last $250 in mwr halves from the bag were a bust

 

Quick curious question for those of you that do collect/hold Canadian cents when you run across them roll hunting. Why? I notice people seem to consider them worthy of holding onto and they keep them. I wasn't aware Canadian cents were worth anything more than US cents but maybe I'm missing something?

 

canada mints quit minting them in 2012 so sooner or later they will be quite rare

Nothing special about saving Canadian cents unless you're saving older ones for the copper content.
Them not minting them since 2012 won't make them rare coins, mintages are extremely high.

 

1 bank today had $7 loose halves that yielded 1996 and 2002 Cu-Ni proofs in really nice condition...Finally two keepers for me, yes!

 

This is by far my worst turn out for CRHing. Based on what I’ve seen previously, I’m led to believe these were searched prior to being sent my way. Yes, I’m extremely spoiled. This represents approximately 20,000 nickels, so about 1 silver per 16 rolls and 1 buff/liberty per 17. The 1913 circcam @lordmarcovan @CircCam is a type 2-P.



I found 1 silver quarter in ~10,000.


Saving grace was the dimes. I found 37 silver (1 mercury) out of ~15,000 or 1 silver dime per 8 rolls.
