Slightly off course...... Wasn't there a major automobile manufacturer of the day that had publicly offered a new car back in the day in trade for a copper 1973 cent? Or is that one of those phony stories that brewed up over the years?

I’d argue that journalism died when news companies started trading on the open market and became profit driven, however, journalism has always had profit as a motivation so the illusion of a fair and impartial journalistic body is just that, an illusion.

I think they are just lazier and more obvious in their attempts to snag readers these days.

It would be nice if 'news' outlets just reported the news versus slamming one side against the other. I guess it is a product of our own societal wrongs. I know I cannot watch certain channels. Fact, I leave the news off most of the time anymore. Just angers me.

That usually happens to me when I read CNN, LA Times, and Huffington Post. Gone are the days when news was news, each and every reporter has to inject their skewed, flawed opinion into the media.

True. I hope you're not inferring that other 'news outlet' is any different though. You're right though, the actual pertinent and 'real' news days are gone.

FOX is just as skewed, just radically in the other direction.

Okay. Just checkin. I'll admit I'm politically biased and I will follow news channels accordingly when I do watch. I don't need the 24/7 bashing though. No news there.

PM me if you want to discuss this further, I have an unhealthy appetite for politics.

I know we get excited (especially us newbies) about coins and currency, but we should take care to fully read articles and understand what they contain (or ask others what they really mean) before carrying click bait onto CT forums. This is a good example of where taking a beat (or a few full measures) to understand what a misleading 'news' article is actually saying, before posting here, is good policy. Just saying.

This whole thread turned into a sigh but will be interesting to see how it actually gets moderated based on the past

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

The true news angle to this story is that this "Discovery Piece" was well known for a long time, and had just been slabbed by NGC this past summer for the first time. It was a big topic of conversation at the Philly August ANA show.

The news here is that slabbing was obviously done because the longtime owner had not been well, and it was probably done to increase salability as an asset of his estate.

It was FOUND long ago, and it's been KNOWN long ago, but now it's being sold.
