Wow. Amazing. I would sell it for 1.7 million.

The owner died in September so he never got to enjoy the monetary rewards of his find. The joy of owning this coin is priceless though.

The article seems to suggest that RECENTLY a child found this rare and valuable US cent in his lunch money or something. It is almost click bait. The title of the article should have been: "RARE and VALUABLE penny to be auctioned after it was found in 1947 and held all these years."

I believe it was found in the lunch room but it was like 70 years ago.

The legend is true and this is the discovery piece! What exactly is the 20% "Buyers Premium"?

I believe 'they' once claimed this coin never existed. Goes to show ya, ignore half of what you hear and doubt the second half.

The title of this thread is misleading, click bait.

This was part of our local history. It was found in Pittsfield , Ma when he was a kid. I didn't have to read the article as it was also in Numismatic News. Shame though that he was in a nursing home as all he wanted was to sell this and die at home.

No "almost" about it. Just like 90%+ of ALL news lately, it IS clickbait. Journalism died when the Internet took off.

One side would claim 'fair market' results and all that though. "Freedom" I think one side likes to tout.

Some would argue all is already lost. It'd be hard to argue.
