Pop 1 now Standing Liberty Quarter... only plus grade 58, and a "problem-free" chopmarked Trade Dollar. Never had either one of these before and I think they're super cool!

No, they're not "fine," they're AU!

"58+"? Dang, you just know that would've been a 63 or 64 before the Late Unpleasantness...

The rumor is definitely real, at least with some issues. I just recently examined a group of 1916-D Dimes fresh from PCGS (grades 4-15) that a seller wanted my opinions on after getting them back, and I haven't ever seen them this strict-- 6's with full rims, 8's with sharp fasces detail. A few years ago the 6's would have been graded as 8's, the 8's 10's.

That’s really cool, I didn’t know a chopmarked coin could be straight graded. Nice!

Nice stuff! The 58+ quarter is probably worth 64 money because of the "everyman" sets. (Irony much?) The trade dollar is about as tastefully chop marked as they come.

Nice results. That '17-D 58+ FH will be like blood in the water to those "Everyman" registry set guys. You scored very well with that one. Now get a CAC sticker on it and watch the feeding frenzy start. :)

CACing a plus grade coins seems like something from the Department of Redundancy Department. Lol, but yes, it'll go there.

Interestingly, I did have one coin that I think they over graded. A 1859-S Seated Half Dollar. I had it at VF35 or XF40 and they gave it an XF45. But I may have underestimated the grade just because I was expecting them to be tighter...
In any case, it flies in the face of the "they're too hard on seated coins" trend.

Yeah, one well hidden chop and a great white, lustrous look. I had seen problem free chopped coins before, but never found and submitted one before now.

Mechanical error - send back the trade dollar for a label change.

Seriously though- is there a rhyme or reason behind detailing some chops and not others? Or did they miss it altogether?

As long as there isn't another problem with the coin, such as cleaning, they supposedly straight grade them because "it's a part of their history."

AU58+ is a really sweat grade for any coin. Nice find.

So your saying the "chop mark" values the coin less ??
