I found this last night; my first $100 star note. I'm not an expert at grading, but I think that this would be at least VF, maybe/maybe not XF. Nice centering, slightly to the right. Corners have very minor curling. The biggest flaw is in the center; it has been wrapped around a roll of bills and shows wear on the left side of Ben's face. The reverse is in better condition than the obverse. Is it a keeper? Approximate value? Any info appreciated. Jon
Hard to tell with scanned currency but I'm thinking XF at least. Lists at $175 in CU. Nice find. clembo
Clembo..you are correct. It is difficult to examine a scanned note. Depending on how harsh the breaks are in the paper due to the folds and creases might even bring it down a little more. Still a nice find and it's a keeper for sure! The upper left corner is rounded and a crinkel in the top edge and center folds are evident on this scan. RickieB
I personally keep it. It will be a long time before it carries a premium and that's only if it pans out that nobody saved enough of them in CU condition. I consider them part of my emergency savings.
i would keep it if you can afford it! it can always be spent in an emergancy, but stars always have a great chance of gaining value (if you ever choose to sell). $100 is a big hit to keep, so if you choose to spend it, maybe offer it up ion the open forum - someone here might decide to buy it from you at face plus shipping. IMHO its always best to try to keep items with collector iterest in the collectors community rather then being spent and possibly ruined.
http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/ is a cool site that shows the population of star notes in a given run. I've been collecting star notes for a few months now and I just keep them all. If you can afford to save the $100, then go for it. Nice find!
http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/ is a cool site that shows the population of star notes in a given run. What is the difference in runs and how can you tell by looking at the bill? I have 2001 $100 Star Notes that have about 30 consecutive numbers, it says F6 in the corner. I'm new to this but can tell from the chart on the link you provided that run 1 would be a lot better than run 2, right? I posted my pics under the thread "Star Notes vs. Old Money"
Dave ... a very good site to explore for paper money information (serials, districts, stars, mules, c.o.pe, and everything else you can image) can be found Here that is a VERy good site with alot of info. explore it. It has a long list of series with most all serial #'s. so with a district letter, and a serial - it can tell you appx how many notes were printed under that run (even gives a date ) I would highly suggest you check it out
Dude, you're awesome...that site is great! I'll need to read it a few times to get the hang of it but just doin a once over I have picked up a lot of cool info, thank you! Still having trouble with the plate positions but I got the basics of FRB's and runs. Let me ask you this, I just picked up $600 worth of $2 bills. What should I look for? What FRB is best for these, series run, etc..? $400 worth of the $2 bills are mixed dates, mostly 1976 and 1995 while the other $200 are Series 2003A E04290201A - E04290300A. These babies are nice and crisp! But anyway, like I said, what FRB's are hot to collect and is there anything else I should look for while looking through the other $400 worth? Thanks a lot! Dave
what to look for ... well, definately pick out and keep ANY stars, legal tendor notes (red Seals) and any other pre-1976 note. After that, for the 1976, 1995 and 2003 printings... take a look at the serial charts on that site. Look under all 3 series and take a look at the printing's of everything. The ones with super low mintages are the ones to keep (also maybe anything that is close to choice condition, and depending how you collect - any notes in sequence.) Keep in mind that a billion people (only a slight exaggeration here) save and collected these notes... so form the most part, common notes except in the highest grades, wont fetch much of a premium for a long time.
