I didn’t expect this Hieron II to show up until after the new year, but hey, I'm not one to complain. Hieron II, 274-216 BC Syracuse, Sicily Obv: Diademed head of Poseidon left Rev: IEΡΩ-NOΣ, trident head, with scrolls decoration between prongs, flanked by dolphins SNG Cop 850 BMC 530 I'm pretty sure that is the right one. It was sold as Hieron on Obverse but I'm fairly certain thats Poseidon. Post your Hiero's if you got em
Congrats on the new cool coin, here's mine! Hieron II, Syracuse, 275-215 BC O: Poseidon, R: Trident between dolphins, ΙΕΡΩ−ΝΟΣ below, 20 mm, 6.6g, Calciati-197

My coins just duplicate those shown. I do have a preference for legible legends so we can read his name.
Nothing that hasn't been shown here either, but I just photographed this butting bull AE19 and just love the green-black patina it has.
I totally missed this thread just before Christmas last year . . . Besides my Saturnalia gift received I had not expected to have any new coins enter the collection in December but I was amazingly surprised with this terrific gift and thought it deserving to be here among the fine collection of Hieron coins everyone has posted: Syracuse, Sicily. Hieron II (275-215 BC) Æ28, 28.2mm, 16.838g, die axis 270o. Syracuse mint, c. 230-215 BC. Obv: Head of Hieron to left, diademed : border of dots. Rev: ΙΕΡΩΝΟΣ - horseman prancing right, holding couched spear, N lower right. Ref: Calciati II p. 381, 195; SNG ANS 924; SNG Cop 839; SNG Morcom 822; HGC 2, 1548; BMC Sicily p. 217, 588. Ex. My only Hieron II: Unfortunately it's a beat bit up. Those pesky Romans overstruck it with a sextans, but you can still see some of the undertype:
Ha! That coin was my Secret Saturnalia gift! I was just about to post it. Hope this isn't too awkward. You see, I decided it wasn't quite an ideal fit for my Eclectic Box, though I did like it. So it ended up being swapped, but I enjoyed owning it (albeit briefly). It was the first big Greek bronze I ever owned, and it taught me about Hieron II. Now it has been in the hands of four forum members we know of: @Johnnie Black @lordmarcovan @Aethelred @dadams A well-traveled coin. I'm glad it has found a happy home at last. That was kind of Ye Olde Dead King to send you that. Here is the old FORVM listing for it, BTW. You probably already looked that up. I did keep the old postcard Johnnie Black sent me in the Saturnalia package. *
I stumbled on this rare & beautiful Hieron II bronze three years ago in a NOMOS auction & had to copy the photo, see below. Syracuse, Sicily, 275-215 BC, 29 mm, 18.13 gm, 12 h. Notice the rams head in the right field. The coin sold for $5,600.00 .
