I apologize for not having a photo yet, as it was just graded, just have grade information from website. I have only found examples of up to proof 68, any thoughts on potential value. Not looking to sell just not a lot of comparables that I could find. Other coins graded for giggles: 1964 d 25c ddr fs 801 die 1 Au58 1941 proof 50c no "AW" Pf66 1939 proof set 1938 proof set 1941 proof set (includes the 41 above) 1952 superbird 1947 (56) 1p
If you get the 53 crossed to PCGS as a PR-69, it would be the single finest and carry a huge premium as a condition rarity. NGC has 14/0 in its population and one sold for $2,070 in a heritage auction. But there are quite a few NGC PR-68s that have sold for less than a hundred bucks. Not to bash ANACS, but they don’t carry nearly as high price tags at the top pop. This is based solely on condition, I’m not familiar with the premiums that the variety may carry.
Yes, my dilemma, I have a 53 come back as a pf 69, but add a ddo fs 101 and now I have no clue. Does it detract from value as a top pop, or increase it because of rarity? Thank you @Kirkuleez
The top pop grade would not be reduced by the variety. If anything it would increase it slightly; but I think that the condition would be the main factor.
I am leaning towards a crossover to pcgs, state the min acceptable at 69, see if it comes back cracked out and in a pcgs tomb and I do a little jig. If not I am out 40 or so bucks and still have in a anacs tomb. Thanks all. I will follow up once I get the coin back and send it to the other overrated tpg. If it comes back a pf69 I will post it
Sight unseen it would have to be nearly flawless to be a 69. Not impossible, but after what David Setree posted, it may not even crossover to 67. Good luck.
Had not had a chance to post pictures of the coin until now, Little sidetracked thought I would share. The smudge/scratches are on the holder not coin, hard to keep plastic 100% clear. Closeup of the DDO is not the best but you can see the Doubling. As I mentioned previously, I am thinking about trying to cross it over to PGCS, the coin is amazing in person but PCGS can't have ANCAS or NGC giving out good grades without squatting on it.
Thank you, New Years resolutions... Maybe actually retire this year, become more active again in the Coin Club here in Portland, spend a little more time on Cointalk again, and attempt to make headway on my WWI type set
