This came in tonite. it's supposed to be Nerva and with the SC on back i figured from Antioch. it's smaller than i expected at 21mm & 9.16gms. i looked at several Antioch Nerva's and the bust looked different on many of them. this completes my "bronze 5 good" on that, but i feel there should be 7 in it and i have 6 now.. POST YOUR COMMENTS AND COINS PEEPS!
Nice un buddy Looks thick. At over 9 gr and 21mm it's gotta be! With a face with so much character I wish I had more than this lone denarius of his: Nerva 96-98 CE Mint: Rome Denarius AR 16mm., 3,03g. IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS III P P; Laureate head of Nerva right / SALVS PUBLICA; Salus seated left holding ears of corn
Nice @ominus1! That profile and long neck, it does look like Nerva. At 21mm, it's a smaller denomination, maybe a Semis equivalent. And looks like a gamma below the SC? I mentioned in another post that I had 2 Antioch Nervas en route to me (one has actually been delivered, but to my work so will pick it up Wednesday)... Both are the larger As or Sestertius equivalent denomination. Here are the seller's pics: 28mm, 14.93g, O or Theta below SC 27mm, 15.08g, I below SC
Got to have a Nerva and a strong portrait on yours and not too easy to come by, here is my only one celebrating the rescinding of the postal tax, he was about helping the impoverished and minorities:
Great coin, Mike! That's a really interesting reverse! I like it!!! And with that patina, I bet it feels really good in hand! Nice!
Excellent work! Love the coin.. the patina is great and you can feel the history from that coin... nice!
The only coin of Nerva that I own was unearthed in my town and cleaned by myself. It's from Antioch (SC) on reverse, but bigger and heavier. I like it though it's worn.
Here's mine. It was probably cleaned with a steel brush, but the Z consoles me a bit. AE22 Nerva 96-98. Antiochia, Seleucis. Obv: Laureate head of Nerva right. Rev: S C in laurel wreath of eight bunches of leaves. Below SC: Z (=7). 22 mm, 6.91 gr. McAlee 421 var. RPC 3485 (2 pcs; all 8 SC types together 82 pcs, Z is the rarest). Obv. coarsely cleaned.
LOL, yeah, I am learnin' to count also! EMPEROR NERVA: RI Nerva AE Dupondius 96-98 CE LIBERTAS PVBLICA -pileus ex: TIF REPUBLIC NERVA: ( I actually got this Republic Nerva BECAUSE I had Emperor Nerva... ) RR AR Denarius A Licinius Nerva 47 BCE 3.58g Rome Fides One-armed horseman gllpng drggng naked warrior hair Cr 454-1 Syd 954
