If you have a fire safe, location is an important consideration. If there is a devastating fire, the center of the house is probably the worse place for it since that's where one would expect the fire to be hottest and longest in duration. I've always located my fire safes by an outside wall.

    I have a 500 NE that I shoot 100+ times a year.

I had shotgun primer trip wires on each side of my porch at my off grid cabin along with signs saying there were cyanide trip guns inside. Didn't stop the shotgun wielding thugs from kicking in the the door and stealing at will. I arrived 10 hrs later.

When my bust half collection walked off several years ago Hugh Woods merely asked me for a copy of the police report. Two weeks later I had a check in my hands for the fully declared value of my collection. No invoices, no argument. No fuss, no muss.

My homeowner's agent has often stated that "There are two robberies every time a house is burgled---the burglary itself, and then again on the claim report. Funny, I guess my mother just raised me wrong because the idea of inflating my claim never even occurred to me.;)

No insurance. I keep all my coins in lock boxes at a bank in town that's right across the street from a fire station. I had a coin burglary many years ago when I kept all my coins at home. I had hidden the "good" coins under the insulation in the attic so all they got were the rolls of Lincolns, Buffalo nickels, etc. None of the good stuff, in other words.

I use .410 fleschette - buck - deer slug - buck - fleschette With the first shot
aimed at the head. Few people are dangerous after they are blind. So far that
has never failed to save me. Whenever it does fail I'm dead anyway.

As a strictly non-political statement I suggest that everyone read the provisions of the most recent bank bail out bill. When you do you will learn that the banks are required to first steal the money in your accounts and THEN take possession of the contents of all the safety deposit boxes and convert them into cash to be used to SAVE the bank. No where in there does it provide for you to be paid back. Prior to that honest banks could shut down and refuse you access to your box for six months before you could file a complaint. Still think that it is a good idea to leave your valuables there?

There is no statute of limitations for some actions. I have done many legal in the US acts in foreign lands during wartime that the people in those lands would consider criminal. I no longer have the protection of law for my acts so I keep them to myself and speak in general terms. Some folks would consider blinding an enemy as charitable. Others would say it is mean. I say it is effective.

But even if a bank is robbed, the robber can't make off with the contents of the SDB. Two keys are required to gain access.
