Nerva has one of the most distinctive Roman emperor portraits. I am a big fan of Nerva's coins.

That is a gorgeous specimen. I still wish I could have bought it. But I am glad it went to a good home. :)

My focus area is equally split between continental and oriental coins. 50% of my collection consist of Asian coins (mostly South Indian), while the other half consist of Roman Imperial coinage (with a sprinkle of some Greeks and other European).
This map from my century coin set clearly shows the split!

Since you revived this thread and I didn't post in it earlier, I can tell you about my focus:
I started out 45 years ago with 'Romans' and later tried to get every denomination of every Caesar and Augustus. Then I focussed on coins of the Tetrarchs and Constantine&Sons from every mint. Meanwhile I had a small separate collection of Antoninus Pius, which has since then grown into 1400 coins. The fourth century collection was far too extensive and now I only collect Constantine&Sons struck in Arles. Republican coins keep fascinating me, so a couple of hundred in that field as well. In short: I am a picky omnivore:hungry:

I wasn't a member when this poll was open, but it looks like one could name only a single "main collecting focus area." Given that limitation, I might answer such a poll by saying Roman Republican. But that would be rather misleading, given the following breakdown of the ancient coins I currently own:

    Greek States (non-Roman) 13
Roman Republican Provincial: 4 (classified as "Greek" in catalogs)
    Roman Republican: 43
    Roman Imperial: 143 (118 pre-Diocletian, 25 Diocletian-Theodosius I)
Roman Provincial: 20 (including 8 from Roman Alexandria)

In the future, it's possible that the numbers might skew a little less heavily towards Roman Imperial compared to the present ratio (143:80). But it's hard to predict.

'Far' I would say; most emperors can be found in my trays, but I had to stay away from gold as I could not afford them. and I still haven't found that single quinarius of Antoninus Pius and there are more great rarities in some denominations which prove impossible to acquire. I have not really expanded that core collection for many years now.
