Good morning, Years ago I collected coins but stopped when I was a teenager, I started up again when my grandfather passed away and left me his small coin collection. One of the wheat pennies is a 1927 with no mint mark. There are some issues with a few things on the coin and I was hoping someone could help me. The main discrepancy is the "U" in Trust along the top of the coin, it looks like it has either been damaged somehow or was an error in the striking. Also, the last "T" in Trust looks like it may be doubled on the top left side. It is really small so maybe it's just I am getting too old to see straight. There is other "damage" but I want to deal with just the "U" for now. I have enclosed a photo, if anyone can help me with what this is, either an error or damage, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance and please let me know if you have any questions or would like to see any additional photos.
The adjoining damage to the right and bottom of the letters is the tell tale sign it was damage. The metal was moved around after a couple of very hard hits to the coin ( after it left the Mint ).
Thank you for your reply. I will find something one of these days, but, searching for the coins is most of the fun anyway. Happy New Year!
