Absolutely incredible. When I first saw this on another thread I thought to myself wouldn’t it be wonderful if the coin got back to a living relative. The very next post you decided to do so.
The way you guys came together and found these people is beyond heart warming and not to mention the gentleman that offered to pay you for giving up trying to sell it. My hat is off to all you guys. You guys have hearts of gold.

I mailed it off this morning, so it should be back in their family's hands soon.

What a cool story! I'd be shocked if The Numismatist declined to run it.

Well, poke me with a stick if I don't get the story written up before too long. I promised member "Mark" on Collectors Universe that I would submit some kind of article(s) to them this year, and flopped around all year without doing so.

(Of the Seven Deadly Sins, "sloth" is probably my biggest, if not gluttony).

This does seem an ideal piece to base such an article on.

Really, so is the Bertha & Harold Shaver story, though this one has a happier ending than that one. The person I sold that Shaver WW1 love token to said he was going to donate it to the Canadian War Museum.

I hadn't entirely spliced those quoted posts together in my mind.

Ladies and gentlemen, just when the surprising plot twists in this feel-good story seemed to be wrapped up, and the Christmas warmth pleasantly fading, I give you ...

    Randy Abercrombie, ladies and gentlemen.

    Randy Abercrombie.

    Wow.

    Happy New Year.

Now that's a feel good story to feel good about! Keep us posted, it's too bad that both have passed away. Hopefully you find family and they don't think you're fishing for information to rip off their identities or something worse. :vomit: Good luck with your research. Here's an angel pic for being such a good numis collector. angel4.gif

Oh, but read the whole story! We did find a descendant, with the help of @Kasia (oops, no, sorry- I meant @Trish - Kasia helped me with another item), and yosclimber on Collectors Universe. And the coin is in the mail on the way to her!

As to Howard and Vesta having passed on, it's not so surprising, since exactly a century has passed since he gave her the coin. Sounds like they had a good life together.

Hey LordM, I'm over here, too...So, get that story written!!! (cause it will be great!!)

More seriously, I have published one article in The Numismatist. I wrote it "on spec," that is, I sent it to them after I had written it. I'm not sure this is best...maybe you can ask RogerB over on the CU boards for his advice.

I read the original post about the coin and thought how great it would be if a descendant could be found. I had no plans on bidding on it since it is out of my price range but I totally can understand why it would be sold to begin with. I've been looking for one with my wife's initials for awhile now...

BUT then all you awesome people here on CT go and hit me in the feels and find a descendant AND then make contact and send the coin to them. Absolutely amazing. I told my wife the story and she had tears in her eyes. I can only imagine what an amazing family heirloom that coin will be. Hopefully it will be passed down with the story of Vesta McCurry and Howard Pearman and how a piece of family history made it's way back to their family with a little help from the people here on CT.

THEN to top it off @Randy Abercrombie makes an amazingly generous gift to @lordmarcovan ... once again proving that this place is more than just an anonymous forum where people share a common interest but do not interact outside of that. This place really is amazing.

Most of the paper magazines are scheduled 8-10 months out. But they will occasionally make exceptions if and when something comes up they think justifies it.

But Rob, I'm pretty sure I could tell ya how to get that story published in about 2 weeks easy enough once it's written. But it won't be in a paper mag.

Buddy that's entirely up to you. I'm just offering to help if and when I can :)

I appreciate it and am intrigued.

But first I've got to actually write the dang thing! Shouldn't be too hard, given all that unfolded here. Just have to give it a more narrative flow, I guess.

Submission guidelines for The Numismatist are here. Contact Barbara Gregory (e-mail address at the bottom of the guidelines) if you have questions about the process and/or to feel out interest in the story. Vesta and Howard's 100th anniversary will be in 2019, which will make for extra special interest.

Thank you, sir. I think publication around next Christmas should be ideal, which gives me more than enough time, even at my slothlike pace, to write it up. And perhaps write up one or two other of my solved-mystery love token stories in the meantime, for practice.

It's easy to talk about. Getting down and doing it, not so much.

Talk to Barbara with your idea. Let her know that solving love token mysteries has become a side hobby, as well. If she gives you a deadline for the December 2019 issue, that will start the fire under your backside. If you let us know the deadline, we'll keep the fire going. If you need any proofreading or editing help, let me know.
