Hey don't look at me for this subject line, it's an eight and there's just a piece of it. But anyway, what do I want to call this? Here are three slightly different shots. The fields are clean around this thing, now. I see a small cud sitting along side a half-filled eight, but I'm sure that's not how this error is described (I think). Thanks.

My guess would be post strike damage - something has scraped part of the 8 off.

That looks post mint, But I have seen stuff like that come out of MINT and fed rolls before so its a hard call. The only way to know for sure that its POST mint as in Well after it left he mint is to see if the color is different around the area in question, by that i mean is it brighter and clean looking were the rest of the 8 should be? Or is there any other damage around the area of the 8 that looks clean? Like a DING mark on the edge of the coin? Again i have seen stuff like this come right out of mint BU rolls. So there is a real chance it happened at the mint, But After the coin was made. ( THUS STILL BEING POST MINT ).
But there is also another chance that something like a sliver of scrap metal got jammed for a few coins and made the mark. Either on the Die or the blank slug its self. Its really just one of those Questionable things. If you even find out for sure. I would like to know what caused it.

I have see many before (well, a few anyway) common coin counting machine damage.

Here's the big O of the coin in all its glory if it should make any difference. As I have it, now, this is post-mint damage (Doug), meaning post-minting process (Oldman), looks a lot like a little clip from a coin counting machine (Frank). Hey, wait a minute, you guys are telling me they have machines that count these things? When did that happen?

So I guess we let it go at that. Thanks.
