Hello everyone, I have 2 pure gold 1 ounce coins. I am looking to sell because gold is at a high, but I think they could be worth more than just the value of gold. They are nice looking coins commemorating Dr. Sun Yet Sen... but I haven't even seen anything similar on the internet. I even looked on ebay, but nothing. I don't want to sell for the gold content in case they have some real collectors value too. I'll post pictures of the coin itself and then one of the info packet that came with the coin, however the info packet isn't for this coin. It appears to be for the silver version. If anyone is a coin collector, or if you have seen this before let me know. I am out of idea, I even e-mailed the central mint of china.
This is just my personal opinion. I personally wouldn't buy anything from China. The amount of fakes coming out of that country has destroyed any possibility of me ever buying even "legit" Chinese coins. With all the choices out there, who needs to take that risk? Here's a question... why does the certificate say they contain one ounce of silver and not gold? Maybe they're plated? I'd get the metal content of your coins authenticated. Again, this is just my personal opinion...
You do realize that this is from the Taiwan Republic of China, not the mainland People's Republic of China, don't you?
Thanks to all who have replied, these 2 coins were given as a gift to my father. I am pretty sure they are gold, they are very heavy and feel like gold. No thoughts yet on their value? I still am not able to find anything about them on the internet.
The silver version is selling for $32 on ebay. Can't find the gold version. Both silver and gold version are made in 1991.
Hey thanks for the info! would you mind please sending me the link? I searched ebay and did not see the silver or gold coin for sale.
Very interesting. The certificate for the coins are definately wrong as it's supposely 1000 NT$ not 50 NT$ and therefore it's not an ounce of silver as described. Taiwanese gold coins are getting quite scarce to find especially the earlier ones and therefore it will be worth more than what the gold value is. But by how much, I honestly cannot say. Last time I saw a pile of Taiwanese gold coins sold at pandaamerica.com and they were priced quite high, those seem to have sold as well. So hopefully that is good news to you!
