Hey all - can anybody recommend a loupe that they like/have used/prefer, etc.? Or are they all essentially the same? Thanks!

I'm of the opinion... ;) That 10x is 10x no matter what you look thru. But, with that I'm sure there are some 10x loupes more expensive than others. I've only ever used one, a Peer 1.8MM - 10x.

i hate to disagree, but 10x is not 10x on some loupes. If the loupe has a plastic lense, then it will not be as good, or clear as a 10x glass lense. At least, not when looking at the few i have looked at. the glass loupes of the same magnification just seem to get a clearer image - and maybe that is why it looks to have a better magnification, i dont know for sure. But for me, i will only ever use a glass lense loupe.

I definitely disagree. Not all loupes are created equal. You get what you pay for.

I use two loupes by Bausch & Lomb - 7X & 10X. Both are Hastings triplets. These loupes are not inexpensive but they give a very clear image. In years past I used Bausch & Lomb Sight Savers loupes with multiple lenses that can be used individuallly or incombination for varying levels of magnification but these loupes had too much distortion. I also use a B&L 4X magnifier for when 6X is too much.

I've used an ANCO 16x for at least 15 years now. I like to see things and can cherry pick with this.

I also carry a REAL old GLASS magnifying lense for quick perusal. Have no idea what the magnification is but I've had it for nearly 40 years and it still works fine.

It all depend on what your looking for. If your looking for error's I recommend a 20x loupe. Many error's are hard to find, but with a 20x loupe you can tell what is really going on.

I'm a recent convert to a standard magnifying glass, which works much better for me than a loupe. I bought a cheap one and I like it so much I plan to upgrade to a better glass, perhaps from an antique shop. I might also get a small pocket one to carry with me.

Yeah, it does. Have very keen eyes, all I need at the moment for what I am collecting. Although, it's probably the reason I haven't found any RPMs. :D

Here are my loupes and lenses. I just picked up the Bausch & Lomb 3 1/4" 2X magnifying glass.

    Clockwise from upper-right:

    B&L 2X
    B&L 10X
    B&L 7X
    B&L 4X

YEAHHHHHH. Finally someone else likes the magnifing glass.
In reality you should go to a flea market and buy one or two of each power MAGNIFING glass. They use what ever you want. The flea market I go to usually has a large variety for from about $0.50 to $5. I've actually got about 10 or more of them. Some with stands, some with lights, some you put on your head.
I really like the ones you put on your head for removing splinters in my fingers.
One really neat thing I saw advertise on TV about Christmas time was a magnifying glass thing you connected to a TV or computer and it was portable. Ment for kids but if I could find one I'd buy it.
