My first find in my yard a 2015 nickel and a 2016 sheild cent. After that it would go off saying silver,Copper, or mid range. So I dug it. Found nothingl, dug the hole wider and deeper. Going around the dirt I dug up still says mid range and it says it's still in the hole i mad. I dug another hole that said mid range still nothing. Trust me I got muddy. I read the instructions. The Sensitivity I tried it all high and low. Did the same thing. So the people on here that use metal detectors could y'all give me pointers?? On how too use this the right way??
And when it does show the metal in the ground it would light up and beep different sounds. The high pitched beep is silver copper, the next one is mid range it will beep bolder And iron will beep will be a very deep beep. So please tell me what y'all do for y'all's.

I have always tried to make an X over the detected area so that I know X marks the spot. If the object isn't in the depth range it says. I usually find that it is a can much deeper. Sometimes changing the discrimination level will get you a better idea of what it is.

What kind of detector do you have?

I am not familiar with that model. Are you using it with the cable from the coil to the control box as it is in the picture? It should be wrapped around the shaft, and a Velcro strap or something to secure it. Movement in the cable will cause false signals.

Just be careful to dig and plug your holes, so that it looks as if you weren't there.
Also check your local area for laws regarding detecting to make sure you don't get in trouble. Wheatridge here in the Denver metro owns all mineral rights. You are not allowed to even move the rocks, doing so comes with a pretty hefty fine. I am not familiar with that detector. Most of the specs should be in the manual.

I know that the Garrett metal detectors are good, I have found 8 silver dimes and 5 silver quarters so far......... I also have found a lot of relic's , pocket watches, buttons, coins, Etc...( Garrett pin pointers help find targets in holes)

Yep..like @Noah Finney suggests, whenever I get a metal detector, I will also get a pin pointer. They seem indispensable. Good luck to you, @Shrews1994, on your detecting. It is soooo exciting.

Every Metal Detector is different.. My Machine is the AV Minelab CTX 3030 which after a year of owning it I am still learning new settings. Just be patient and keep digging. Just make sure it's not a important live pipe under your lawn going into your home such as plumbing and electrical! ;)
