    Hi --

Ancients collector here and have been out of the US coin scene for decades. I have a few commemorative halves from when I collected US coins as a kid. Ruddy's Photograde Coin Grading Guide doesn't list commemoratives, so I'm asking for some help. Also, is that spot of toning on the reverse much of a detriment?

Thanks so much and merry Christmas to you nice folks in the US forum!

That is called eagle in "Proud Display" on a mountain. I really like the symbolism of this piece.

Hard to say from those photos. The wear is really difficult to see, but is there. The bigger issue that I have is determining luster. This coin doesn’t show any in these photos, and the luster is the difference between XF-45 and AU-55 in my opinion

Most of what I have encountered, Mike, has been un- lustrous, and gun metal grey.......

AU55, the spot doesn't bother me a whole lot, but some might disagree.

    I'll also say AU 55.
This is a very attractive circulated example and a nice example of the type regardless of grade.

    Here is an AU58, which I thought was AU53 myself. 1925 a.jpg

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I'd probably call yours EF-45, with a shot at AU. I don't see much luster, which is going to keep it from AU.

Most of these lack any luster.......
