One of the COOLEST Metal Detecting finds I have ever seen

    I’d put this up there with the Chain cents and AU draped bust silvers I’ve seen dug up in terms of coolness factor!

    Looks like it may have been in mint condition when it was lost. You might consider expert restoration.

    I am not an error/varieties guy. But this is a super cool coin...... Sort of makes me wonder what was on a fellows mind back in 1864..... Did he maybe think it was junk and tossed it in frustration maybe?

    It is quite possible. These things were only legal tender to 10 or 20 cents so getting a merchant to accept it would be debatable. And even coin collectors usually turned their noses up at them. In the early 20th century many dealers would have consigned something like that to the trash can.

    Can't believe I haven't seen this thread amazing find!!!!looks like it was in MS condition before the ground took its beauty.
