Picked these up at last weeks ISNA show in Indianapolis. Super excited about the Coventry piece. D&H 272 D&H 1066
A medieval coin I got as a gift. Johann Ernst von Thun (1643 - 1709 A.D.) Bishopric of Salzburg AR Kreuzer O: IO:ERNEST:G:ARCHIE,Oval arms with cardinals' hat above. R: SALI SBVR GENSI S:1698,Round shield within double cross and circle 15mm .85g KM# 248
After a bit of a break I ended up with a few coins from a European auction. This was part of a lot of four...to get this one. Now, I have a couple of duplicates (triplicates, quadruplets) for some of these years. But the coin is one one of my favorites and my flock has many multiples because, in part (well other than my hoarder tendencies), because the coins can be blast white to wildly colored. This one has a 'star' from NGC. First picture is my standard presentation type shot. The second collage was because I was feeling a bit arty--a bit of play with lights and tilting which might destroy focus but showed off the tarnish/toning a bit. Next I need to crop out the photos for the copper minors from the same auction.
Not technically a "new" acquisition - been sitting in my box of 1800's non-silver for a while now - just decided to poke through and see what sort of interesting stuff was hiding in there amongst all the British large cents. This is probably the best of the ones I picked out: Switzerland - 1874 B 5 Rappen
Purchased in the summer. Like the older ANACS holder. I am on the fence to cross over to add to my NGC George V circulation strikes type set.
1798 Salzburg - 20 Kreuzer Last few years under Hieronymus von Colloredo before Salzburg was secularized in 1803.
Not much to show, but I went to the coin store to buy my daughter a world gold, but instead gave her a Sealand 1972 $10 silver (nominally a proof). Sealand is an interesting story and I was happy to learn that they are still around. And, really, common world gold is like cash, you know, nice to get, but, basically thoughtless -- and it's the thought that counts. But at the same time, I bought for myself: Iceland 2 Aurur 1940 (brass larger than a US quarter) Mozambique (Portugal) 5 escudo 1960 (silver like a US dime, but .620) UK Farthing 1901 last year of Queen Victoria UK Half Farthing 1843 XF -- nice coin, but my mistake: I thought the price was $5, but it was 85 (no dollar sign). And at the full NGC retail I will own this for the rest of my life. And there was some world paper for a different thread.
Got a couple more of these AE dinars from Kashmir. Many sellers call all such coins "Didda Rani", however I am beginning to learn more about them lately. Dates from about 1000 AD.
My final purchase of 2018. Germany did some Thaler restrikes in the 1970s. I haven't been able to dig up much information on them but have been buying the ones I like when they are available.
Here is a thai copper piece that I got recently: 1874 thai 1/2 att . This is about the size of a nickel 1874 1/2 att by Mkman123 posted Dec 27, 2018 at 4:39 PM
