I think I've mentioned here that I have a slight obsession. An obsession with these legionary denarii just in case you didn't already know, hehe. Well here is my latest upgrade and the coin it replaced. Old Upgrade: MARCUS ANTONIUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: ANT AVG III VIR R P C, Praetorian galley, thyrsos behind prow REVERSE: LEG II, eagle between standards Patrae 32-31 BC 3.58g, 19mm Crawford 544/14; CRI 349; RSC 27 Ex Roma Numismatics Auction 4; private European Collection
Confession of a coin addict: After I posted, I cataloged this new coin as usual, but when I went to place it in my display case, low and behold, there was already a nice Leg II and not the older coin I posted above. Hmmm, where did it come from and when did I purchase it? Sooooo, I went looking through my coins filed in the respective binder, and there was my oldest version (the one posted above). Apparently, I replaced the older version back in February, but neglected to catalog the newer coin. Does any of this explanation make since? Well, it does to me. So now I have three Legio II all of which are legible and each is successively better than the one before: 1. 2. 3. Now how is that for an obsession?
I don't guarantee my bookkeeping, but my count is 35 MA Legionary coins. What problem? No obsession here. I just can't help myself. Yep. No obsession at all.
Fantastic upgrade...s! I also have forgotten to catalog coins and then came across them very excited at the "new" coin that I had acquired some time ago.
Your newest upgrade is certainly a fairest of them all! Just wait until you unintentionally upgrade LII again in a few months, I bet that coins is going to be AWESOME!
I really like the off center coin in the group. It must have felt great to realize you have another one you didn't know about!
