Julius Germanicus ´ Top Ten Large Roman Bronzes of 2018

I only bought 21 coins this year (18 Sestertii, two Ants, and one Medallion).

Here are my 10 favorites (all except the last are upgrades) in chronological context.
I like them all in no particular order, so please have a vote and pick your favourites!

They are all great coins, but I cast my vote based on rarity. And in that case, there are two which seem more rare than the others, so my vote could have gone either way.

 

Oh man..Amazing coins! The portrait on the Hadrian is something extra special.
I love them all - some beautiful rarities.

 

Hadrian, hands down. Gorgeous patina/highlighting on that obverse.

 

I love the Pupienus, the Postumus, and of course that amazing Numerian medallion. What a year!

I think this is my only purchase this year that fits with your theme:

My three favorites, based upon rarity and of course, with great eye appeal:
Numerianus, Pupienus and Balbinus, on this order.

 

I like the Trajan and Hadrian equally, but I'm a sucker for the neatness of the legends on Trajan's coins.

 

You had a nice year-- many awesome coins are in that group .

 

All are excellent. I have a soft spot for the big Postumus, but the Numerian tops it for me. What a find that one is.

 

An embarrassment of riches to choose from! I went with the Hadrian for aesthetic reasons.

 

Well-selected bronzes! They all have a decent amount of detail, good surfaces, and great eye appeal.

 

All are fantastic! My favorite is the Pupienus. Wonderful portrait and fine style for the figure of victory on the reverse, with pleasing wear and patina.

 

Great coins all with good portraits, I especially like the Pupienus a bust I have not seen all that often.

 

Thank you everybody for casting your votes! It is always nice to see how others grade the relative eye appeal of your coins.
I have to work with what must be around 1% of Ancient Joe´s coin budget so it makes me happy that I did not end up with any space holders (well, one maybe) this year and kept myself from bidding silly money on mediocre Sestertii of the ladies of Trajan or the wives of Elagabalus or other rarities of little or no historical value that no collector would miss if they would not exist.

That one has a neat portrait, too!!!

That is some SEXY bronze eye candy! I voted for Hadrian just based on the color!

 

Wow! I’ve not collected a single bronze yet, always been attracted to the silver! But these are so beautiful, it’s got me thinking...!!
