Oy.... come on, man; just reason this one out. Occam's Razor, anyone? I'm not trying to be mean here, but this has to be one of the most ludicrous claims made on this board in some time (and is saying a lot).
Good morning Mr slipppery socks. thanks for the info sounds like you have some knowledge on coins. what would you suggest i try next to find out because i know iam new at this but it looks sure looks real
@young mag. I know this isn't the answer you want but I feel it is the answer you need. First, I suggest setting this coin aside and coming back to it in three to six months. Next, focus your hunt, arm yourself with all of the pertinent information and you will start making genuine finds in no time. When I first started a couple years ago I was like you and combed over every single coin with a fine-tooth comb. I spent a LOT of time doing this and got burnt out pretty quick. My suggestion is that you get a copy of each of the Cherry Pickers books, pick a couple of denominations you like looking at (Quarters are great), research all of the common errors for those coins (via youtube and the books), compile a list of the errors and varieties you want to find and spend a few months looking for them or until you get bored and move on to other denominations. I would also suggest coming to this error page every day and just reading through all of the comments on the new error posts. You will learn a lot about errors this way, I know I have.
Yes and it's fun! Especially when it's impossible for a Copper plated zinc cent to be minted over a copper flying eagle cent.. Did you even read the thread? When the thread makes no sense we make it interesting!
A lot of the minor Statehood and NP quarter varieties are not listed in any books that I know of. @young mag JBCOINSINC has several vids highlighting various minor $.25 varieties.
No offense, but you're recommending a clickbait hack who incessantly uses the allure of something for nothing in order to gain views/subscribers to someone seemingly incapable of grasping the absurdity of this thread. YouTube isn't necessarily a negative, nor is all the info within such videos bad, but the referenced channel is a fine example of why you'll see so many here warning the new against utilizing it as a learning "tool". Most variety books today are nowhere near as useful or enlightening as the alternatives, and this includes the cherrypickers guides. They're fine books, yes, but have been largely surpassed by free websites such as the below that often provide superior information, especially on the referenced types. http://doubleddie.com/179401.html http://doubleddie.com/228464.html http://doubleddie.com/719755.html
And that my friend you do with gusto! "I'd rather have a Bad day of fishing than a Good day at work...."
Oh well you must not have heard what I found today. It's a platinum three cent nickel code it in white chocolate
another way to convince your self that this is a eagle cent that is strucked over a modern lincholn cent. Again get image of eagle cent then seen on the images i sent and compare the similarities i know you guys feel like this coin can't exist but all i can do is say what it is and it is ta flying eagle cent struck over with a modern lincholn these are a few images my computer skills are not that great the circles indicate the strongest similarities
It can't be a flying eagle cent that was struck over. There is zinc showing under the copper plating - Flying Eagle cents were made of 88% copper and 12% nickel - not copper-plated zinc. Therefore, we can determine that this is a normal coin that is exhibiting some minor struck thru grease and die deterioration on the reverse - not a Flying Eagle cent that was over-struck by Lincoln cent dies.
how would you go about it? I need an idea. Need to figure out a way of how to make if this coin is an error or not. besides the third party grading.
If you are so convinced, why won't you have it authenticated by one of the third party graders? Tell you what, send it out, if you are correct I will reimburse you for all the fees! You are so sure you are right, it is a no lose situation for you!
good morning mr. cutler i would have no problem at all selling this coin without a third party grader as long as the numbers are right also that the person who is purchasing, know their coin facts. respectfully y.mag
Seriously mag? You do not have the error you think you have. And you are only discrediting yourself to the members of this site with your insistence. Someone offers to pay the fees for you to authenticate it and your response is that you would be willing to sell it without grading for the right price? You are in the wrong crowd for this kind of nonsense.
