2019 Collecting Plans — US Coins

After reading another thread here about early Lincoln cents, then, after taking a look at the single hole in my Whitman folder for a 1924-D, I decided that after almost 59 years, I ought to break down and buy one to put in there, even though every other coin in that folder was pulled from circulation way back then. What confounds me about this is that, as another member has advised, a decent sample will cost me almost $50... yipes!

Just started my gold type set from 1834-1933. hopefully grabbing two $20 gold pieces and a few of the smaller $2.5 denominations for it.

 

Here are all the things I would like to accomplish in 2019:

Clear out all the Lincoln cents from my garage and put them in roll searchers hands, instead of sending them to the bank.

Consolidate and select which euro coins I will keep and which go to the final travel fund.

Mail all the coins I’ve collected here back to the US.

Finish cataloging a collection I acquired from a very good friend.

Convince my wife to increase my coin budget with my next raise.

Acquire either a new error type (like tilted collar, or jagged clip, neither of which I have) or a new type coin with an error on it.

Purchase one coin for my US type set. Probably a matron head cent or half cent, or any with rays coin.

Purchase one US gold coin.

Go to several shows in then maryland area.

Find a coin club in the area I move to.

Meet more CT members in person.

 

50??!! I bought a solid F15 back in 2012 for $24! Later sold it with all my other Key Date Lincoln's because I realized Lincoln Cents do nothing for me.

And that's why I'm still single, lol.

 

2012 was six years ago. I'm not sure I know what a solid F15 looks like, but I'm guessing that a '24D selling for around $50 grades a bit higher than that.

 

I was rather inebriated when I posted the above. I sort of assumed a "decent sample" meant F15.

 

My goal is persue more dates and mint marks on my grades Morgan collection and perhaps start a MS Buffalo Nickel collection.

 

Seriously, I'm not much of one to insist upon these fancy grade attachments. I suppose they are important to others but I think I can come to conclusions without trying to objectify my subjective assessments.
