^^ This is a slippery slope with no end in sight =) I'm off to bid on a certain iconic Tetradrachm...
Nice group as a whole but my favorite is your first. There are many variations of these and the centering of your reverse shows details missing on most coins. Being ex Sellwood is a bonus. Of the various incuse reverse issues, Kroton seems to have continued longer into the thick flan period. Both of mine are similar but quite different. Thanks for sharing yours. I especially like the fact you included a word on what you liked especially about each coin and look forward to your photos when the coins arrive.
Thank you Doug! It took looking at thousands of coins before settling on my first, so I'm glad it appeals to others as well. Speaking of appealing coins, I really need to stop and let my bank account recover. Just.. one.. more =) Winged bust left, wearing torque Bull standing right; double spiral ornament above, quatrefoil below, grain ear in exergue CHARACTERISTICS COIN CONDITION VF(30-35) COMPOSITION Silver DIAMETER 20 DENOMINATION Denarius CELTIC TRIBE Remi LATOUR 7191 MINT NAME Not Applicable YEAR 1st century bc? Sigh. Thats what I get for copy-pasting a description. Wouldn't that be a pentagram? I've seen other vairiants of this coin with a quatrefoil but that certainly isnt one =)
Thanks for the pics as well Doug. Nice coins. Thats another thing I love about ancients in general... the massive variation between coins of the same type. No two specimens are truly the same
