Hi All My brother is getting into gold coins - More for bullion sake but starting to enjoy the history. I know zilch about gold coins - and for xmas wanted to get him something to support the hobby in him, but I cant afford an actual gold coin (Unless they come really small.....) - I have seen TINY gold roman coins but I dont know what they are called / the value. He also isnt much of a reader - So anyone have any thoughts? Thank you! Tyler
Does it have to be gold? If he's more for bullion, it's hard to go wrong with silver. JM Bullion and Provident Metals have some really good Silver rounds you can get him. I actually just picked these up today from JM as gifts for co-workers. Granted they are way over spot, but seemed great as gifts due to package and COA. Coin 1 Coin 2
You don’t mention your budget? There’s also stuff like 1/10th ounce American gold eagles which currently are about $142 each https://www.providentmetals.com/2019-1-10-oz-american-gold-eagle-coin.html There’s also fractional gold coins such as California from gold rush days that are fairly cheap for some
The tiniest gold coins I know of are Indian fanams, some sell for under $50. Here's the search results for VCoins: https://www.vcoins.com/en/Search.as...cords=100&SearchOnSale=False&Unassigned=False
Yeah, those are small. I posted one the other day that I saw on eBay. It was 10 Karat gold and only weighed 0.3 of a gram. It was from the 1700's and minted in the India area of Asia. It had a value of about $5.00 but sold for $20.50. Some posters on CT said that coin in excellent condition would retail for about $75.00. One thing to consider is whether you want a really pretty gift, regardless of the price versus metal value, or whether you want to stay close to metal value. Be sure to check out the product and the seller carefully . Thanks Tyler , for asking for opinions.
Thank you everyone! The fanam and the gold prospect of guide are perfect (all suggestions were awesome these just fit my budget)
